But with its up's The Haçienda had it also had its down periods. One was where a clubber collapsed at the club and died 3 days after taking Ecstasy for the first time at the venue. This death at The Haçienda was also the first reported death from ecstasy in the UK.

The local gangs around Manchester also played prevalence to the clubs demise and started to surface at The Haçienda were there were quite a few altercations inside the club.

The violence escalated to such a point where The Haçienda was temporary forced to close down in January '91 due to violence and bad press it was receiving. The Haçienda reopened 3 months later and continued to run until it's eventual closure at the end of June '97. The club stayed empty until it was demolished in '02 and the bricks from the venue were sold off for £5 each with all the proceeds going to charity.

The thing that strikes a chord with clubbers is that every item factory records brought out from Flyers, Newsletters, Membership Cards to The Haçienda building itself is catalogued, therefore making every item that Factory Records brought out traceable & very sort after.

After the height of it's success Anthony Wilson wrote a book and a film called 24 Hour Party People, which was a semi-fictional peek into his life and The Haçienda at the peak of it existence.

In January of this year, Anthony Wilson had to undergo emergency surgery to remove a kidney which was later he was to find out that it was cancerous. He also found out that the local NHS would not be giving him the drug he needed which may have pre longed his life because it cost too much, turning him into a victim of the "Postcode Lottery".

After hearing of this injustice, Members of the bands he used to promote rallied around to fund the treatment he needed which would cost around £3,500 a month. But on 10th August 2007, Anthony Wilson passed away after a battle to fight the disease.
