September 30th – Adderbury: Helter Skelter Founded by Dave Pratley, his then girlfriend Penny and a few close friends and associates, Helter Skelter host their first party at St. Mary's farm in Adderbury, Oxfordshire. Seeing that this party was their debut onto the scene, Dave and his friends didn't have any relevant experience in party promotion.
As a result of their apparent lack of experience, [ one newspaper said that they handed out flyers in pubs the day before the party ] Dave and his team didn't hand out enough flyers in the right places or deliver the necessary information to their prospective guests.
At great expense to them, Dave and his partners hired a stella list of US artists [ Ce Ce Rogers, Lil' Louis, Ralphi Rosario and Kariya ] to be exclusively to be at their party but things don't entirely go to plan for the team as events beyond their control conspire to go against them.
Whilst networking and flyering their party at Dance '89 the week before, Dave and his team realise that most of the advertised acts at Energy's party weren't actually there which makes their forthcoming party look like a dodgy scam. Relevant inexperience aside, Dave and his team use their heads and waited until the very last minute to set up, five other organisers decided to set their parties up eariler today - all of those five parties were shut down by the authorities.
Even with these conspiring events [ police roadblocks, fake signposts and banning orders ] and a muddy ploughed field, another newspaper report suggests that Helter Skelter managed to pull in a more than heathly five-thousand people for their maiden journey. Like showbiz divas they are, supergroup the KLF demand to be paid for their PA in Scottish One Pound notes. The group then wrote "Children we love you" on every single note and threw their entire fee into the crowd!.
