March 12th - National: Orbital - Chime
It just goes to show you that some of the best things can be created in the oddest of moments. Made just before they were going to get plastered down their local, another accidental track could become the catalyst for greater things, this time for two siblings.
Snapped up by DJ Jazzy M after sending a demo tape to his show on London's LWR, Sevenoaks' biggest rising prospects, the Hartnoll brothers [ a.k.a "Orbital" ] could be heading for international acclaim as their debut release "Chime" officialy hits the UK record shops. An overnight party anthem and originaly pressed up on Jazzy's Oh' Zone label just a few months back, the initial demand for Orbital's Chime has resulted in the record to be re-licensed and re-released through a bigger independent label.
Now with the normal bidding war ensuing with London Records label leading the charge, Pete tong wins the contest and that infamous FFRR promotional bandwagon now goes full throttle.
A special guest [ and a very political one at that as they went on stage in rather fetching anti poll tax t-shirts ] appearance later on "the BBC's premier music programme - Top Of The Pops", and their record shoots up another six places to peak at #17 in the UK charts.
March 17th - Bristol: Perception
A new dawn begins in the west country as an new organisation from Gloucestershire dramatically throws their hats into the ring. Founded by Chris Griffin and Gideon Dawson, Perception host their first party at the impressive Grade I listed Brunel Centre in the Temple Meads subrurb of Bristol, Avon.
The earliest surviving railway terminus in the world saw a capacity crowd of up to three-thousand come into the center of Bristol to herald in a new chapter in west country raving folklore. Perception's first steps on the rocky promotional ladder will become a litlle bit harder as in a few months time, Gideon will leave the Perception organisation to move onto a new challenge.
March 24th - Birmingham: Starlight
Headed by local organiser and well known city fan Walton Wilkins, a brand new and untried organisation attempts to break free from the illegal constraints to catalyse the new musical evolution on Birmingham's dance floors.
In scenes echoing the days gone past the team at Starlight are very secretive about their locations, but they begin their intrepid journey at
Handsworth Leisure Centre in Birmingham, west Midlands.
March - Bootle: Quadrant Park
After taking stock of their city centre success to partake in another undercover operation, Merseyside Police's radical shake-up of an already fragile party scene continues unabated as officers pay a surprise visit to Quadrant Park in Bootle, Merseyside.
After undertaking their biggest raid in the area so far, newspaper reports state that Merseyside Police have recovered a quantity of controlled substances from the premises and have also charged nineteen party-goers with drug related offences.
