May 27th to 30th - St. Austell: Obsession

In what would have been organiser Gideon Dawson's finest hour and crowning glory, an event he would have like to have done with his previous employers, Obsession's four-day rave festival "Virtualworld" is cancelled with just ten days to go before the event is due to start.

 

Virtualworld was due to have been the world's largest beach party and the culmination of six months dedicated hard work by the Obsession crew. Take a gander at what Virtualworld was going to provide for you; 150 DJ's, five outdoor arenas, ample camping, Carlyon Bay, the Cornwall Coliseum, technology everywhere, beautiful views and a futuristic looking flyer.

 

All of these selling points and attractions would have greeted twelve thousand lucky ravers in one of the most idyllic places to party in the United Kingdom. Giedeon's dream turns into a nightmare as the owner of the Coliseum summonds Gideon to a meeting to inform him that the venue is backing out of the Virtualworld project.

 

The venue owners said that it has been pressurised into cancelling the project by the local council, but a under-hand trick took place as Gideon had to pay the venue a £10,000 deposit a day earlier on the insistence of the venue owners.

 

The cancelation by the owner of the Coliseum and the other pull-out by Virtualworld's production crew [ The children of technology / Archiv design ] leaves Gideon in financial ruin and facing bankruptcy as he has paid the deposits for everything.

 

DJ's and artists fees, venues, hotels, advertising and production costs has been paid off his own back and he has lost the whole lot, the sound of Obsession is over.

 

 

 

May 28th - Manchester: Life

With the tricky Pleasuredrome situation of a couple of years ago behind them and with other more serious issues to sort out at their club, DJ Welly and the old gang from Farnworth reach the impressive milestone of two years of "Life" at Bowlers Leisure Centre in Trafford Park, Manchester.

 

 

 

May 29th - London: Voodoo Magic

Three months after the launch of the new record shop on the Kings Road in Chelsea, south-west London, Moving Shadow boss Rob Playford launches yet another product onto London streets.

 

Moving shadow will take on the cream of London's "Theatreland" when they host "Voodoo Magic", the first in a series of all-nighters at the Equinox nightclub near soho in central London.

 

This will be the first time that a big-time record label has put their weight behind and held a party that will promote a big selection of artists from it's recording back catalogue.

 

 

 

May 29th - Birmingham: Amnesia House

All roads lead back to the heart of England as the other bank holiday also belongs to Amnesia House.

 

Neville Fivey and partner Bambam from the midlands oldest rave organisation also livens up the end of the month as they return to Brum to host the second chapter, the "Big Bank Holiday Bash" at the Institute in Birmingham, west midlands.
