Autumn - National: Jungle Mania '94

Dodgy compilation record label Telstar gets all hip and trendy on us as they release the first commercial album dedicated to the new sound of the UK's streets - Jungle.

As a majority of the major record labels are jumping on the jungle-techno bandwagon courting up-and-coming producers and making compilation albums which don't actually sound right... The BMG subsidary Telstar also jumped on the jungle-techno bandwagon but they went all out to get all the relevant DJ's, producers and artists of today to license their top tracks to create one tidy package.

With current anthems like Scotty III, The Helicopter, The Burial, The Way, Original Nuttah, Warning, The Licence and Style. Coupled with one of the first commercials to advertise jungle music on terrestial TV, Jungle Mania '94 is a brave commercial attempt at capturing a vital snapshot of the current jungle, and the younger drum and bass scenes.

October 14th & 15th - Liverpool: Cream

Organisers James Barton and Stephen Hughes from Cream are on the crest of a wave as they invite the whole of the UK to celebrate their club's second birthday. Just to think, this celebration wouldn't have been possible if the organisers didn't think fast on their feet to pull off a little promotional trick to save the club eariler in it's life.

In the two years since they started promoting at the venue, cream has grown from out of one hall in a small venue in the middle of town and the 200 plus guests at their opening night in late '92, to seeing house music explode into the public domain and their nightclub been in the middle of this explosion of sound. Barton and Hughes' club has gradulary risen to the top of their field to become one of the most talked about clubs in the north of england, with capacity crowds at nearly every party they held last year, and having to regularly turn away up to four hundred unlucky punters, Every night...

Last year, Barton and Hughes changed the name of the club from the "Merseyside Academy" to "Nation", and in their quest to be the best club in the UK, they embarked on a ambitious developement program which saw the main room been totally gutted out and refurbished, just in time for their annual august bank holiday celebrations. For a few months hard work, Cream took the capacity of the club from four hundred [ in the early days ] to nearly two thousand.

This year James Barton hands control of the day to day running of Cream to partner Darren Hughes due to James been appointed as a A&R excutive for Deconstruction Records and the job forces him to spend a majority of the working week in London. As the pair want their second birthday to a bigger spectacle than last year, James and Darren get the brainwave to invite the latest acqusition to the Deconstruction rosta - Kylie Minogue. Both parties are slightly dubious and think the birthday project won't work out - Cream's office phones ring constantly for the fortnight leading up to the party...
