July 24th - Southampton: Fusion
The ravers in Southampton and Hampshire have finally got something of their own to shout about!. After hosting six Ikon events at The Old Oriental, Jeff Shields [ a.k.a DJ Supreme ] launched his latest creation, "Fusion" at The Guildhall in Southampton.
London's Ellis Dee and Jumping Jack Frost plus pompey's own Druid will bring forth a fresh new start for this spectacular venue and Hectic will show the rest of the south coast, what the Southampton ravers knew already!.
July 25th - Coventry: The Eclipse
The Eclipse in Coventry closes it's hallowed doors, the rumour mill starts going into overdrive. The main bit of gossip circulating around the scene was that the club had closed down because The Eclipse had lost it's entertainments license.
The offical explaination why the club had to close down was due to a major refit that the venue badly needed. The management of The Eclipse have also stated that the refit would take at least a couple of months to complete.
July 25th - Derby: Fantazia
Fantazia host "One Step Beyond" at Castle Donington near Derby. After the chaos at Summertime in April, there is a huge amount of media interest in this party. In the weeks leading up to the event, the ravers top reporter, the mirror's "Rick Sky" runs a competition with a hundred sets of tickets up for grabs.
One Step Beyond is billed as the largest event in the United Kingdom and it certainly delivered on every count. For the 25,000 ravers inside the outdoor main arena, production team Scarlet Pimpernell spend a lot of time and effort in making the main stage look like a castle. The production team also errected a huge plastic dragon in the middle of the outdoor arena to scare Fantazia's guests!.
After the event, when everyone has finished "bopping"... The Mirror's Rick Sky did summon up enough energy to write a glowing piece in his column on the event.
Summer - National: Acen
Acen Razvi and Floyd Dyce, a.k.a The Brothers Grimm, X-Static and most recently Acen, continues to delight ravers all over the UK their unique take on breakbeats.
Since the early part of this year, via the production House label [ which has spawned the likes of fellow luminaries Baby D, D-M-S and The House Crew ] Acen has nurtured and consistantly produced a host of ground breaking classic tracks which kept the ravers wanting for more.
One such track was Trip II The Moon, citied by most as a track of the year, the first versions of had to be recalled due to the illegal use of James Bond samples. Such was the intensity the record created, Acen produced Trip II The Moon Part IIand Trip II The Moon [ Kaleidoscopiklimax ] to make Trip II The Moon a trilogy of records, the first time this has been done with a hardcore track.
